Movie Remakes Empty Movie Remakes

The new Alice in Wonderland was released today, and from reviews, it pretty much has been added to the pile of pointless remakes. What is your opinion on remakes? Do you believe that films sometimes should be brought back to life in a great new way? (King Kong in 2005) or should be left alone lest they suffer a fate similar the many horror movie remakes? (The Wicker Man Very Happy)
